Why? Rochester? Why?
Why? The bridge spanning the Genesee River will be closed for a little over 2 weeks starting this coming Friday the 12th. While I would be all for updates to the bridge, cleaning, adding more support. None of those are the reason it will be closed. It will be closed so that those of us that need to traverse that expanse of Broad Street can get used to the idea that the "ROAD" may soon be turned into a water way. I personally have nothing against water. It is lovely to look at, swim in, drink… But the City does not have the best track record when it comes to keeping its self clean. Who is going to keep this new water way clean? Not to mention who is going to keep the vagrants out of the water? The City cannot keep the vagrants out of the parking garages, how are they going to keep these homeless city dwellers from defecating in the water? I personally do not see how making part of Broad Street a water way is going to bring people to Rochester. The businesses that this will impact are not happy, but the City does not seem to care. This smacks of the "Fast Ferry" all over again. Dear City of Rochester, I am able to think for myself. Stop trying to do it for me. P.S. you can also stop trying to spend my money for me too. I do a very good job at that as well.

Let's add this to the list of High Falls, the Fast Ferry, and Renaissance Square. We wouldn't want to use the money to actually clean up the city a little--no, that would be frivolous, silly me, let's create a giant public bath for the Broad Street tunnel squatters.
